My bad trip in ukraine 2 days in bed
I have spent the last two days in bed with some form of the flu. My body hurts so bad that I feel I was in a bar fight and kicked by about five guys repeatedly. I don’t think I have a fever, but I don’t have much of an appetite either.
One of my students is a doctor here. She was a neurologist and realized that she could not make any money as a neurologist in Ukraine, so she sold medical supplies to the doctors in an around Odessa, Ukraine for the past decade. This is great for me because she knows who the good doctors are and which ones are not so good. Also, she knows which doctors scam their patients into taking medicine that they don’t need and which ones are honest.
Yes! Don’t be shocked. There are doctors here that will recommend medicine for a patient even though the patient doesn’t need it and then collude with someone at a local pharmacy in order to keep the profit from the medicine.
If there is one thing that I would like to do for you, I would like to get you to open your eyes and open your mind to the fact that almost nothing here will be as you expect it to be. When I first arrived, I would tell stories in my classes about something I had experienced and that I had found shocking in comparison to life in America. However, all of my students would just chuckle and say, "that’s Ukraine.”
I didn’t truly understand them then. Now I do. Electricity goes out quite often here. Hot water goes out quite often here. Things break quite often here. There is no Homeowner’s Association here to fix things around the apartment or in the hallways, etc. However, once you learn how things work, and learn the correct people that can help you, it is possible to live quite comfortably here.
Today I am not going to a traditional doctor. I am going to see a woman that is about 70 years old and comes from a nearby village to a Natural Medicines Pharmacy to treat patients twice a week. She does not actually touch you. She just looks at your energy and prays about it. You can scoff if you like, but the first time I went to her, she named every single past injury or ailment I had ever had. Also, she diagnosed my kidney stones without even touching me. The very next day, I went to a friend who does ultrasound and she diagnosed me with you guessed it!!! kidney stones.
I took the natural medicines this woman prescribed, and the stones were gone in 4 days.
