Intern Responses
Excerpts from letters from program participants
"I'm back at work at the organization and really enjoying things so far. Everyone here is so welcoming and nice and I'm being exposed to a multitude of information relative to my field of study. I have mostly been editing informational material on violence against children and child rights. It's very interesting. Soon, I think I'll be starting to attend classes they're conducting at local orphanages and shelters, which I'm very excited about. The apartment is also great. Every day I'm more and more glad I chose it. I have had internet for about a month now. I think I'll be starting to tutor this week as well to make some extra money."

"Thanks so much for everything you did for us the past month. Our trip to the Ukraine was an unbelievable learning experience, and there is no way it would have been possible without you! We just had a huge family get together, so I did a massive slide show of pictures, and a few of my relatives are very interested in visiting the Ukraine so I gave them your website! We will be in touch about plans for next year. In the meantime good luck with all of your work and have fun biking in the Carpathians! Thanks again for everything!"

"Thanks for writing, everything has been going really well for me. I'm really enjoying the internship and I feel like I'm learning a lot. Vera has me working on several projects in addition to working with the kids, so I've got plenty to do. Everyone at the center has been very nice to me. Things are also going very well with the host family, Lyudmila and Denis are great. The only problem as been that I do not have my own key to the apartment yet (they're going to be changing the lock). That has been pretty inconvenient (as I'm locked in when they're out), but I should be getting a key soon. Aside from that, though, I couldn't ask for a better experience here so far. Thanks so much for your help! If any problems do arise, you'll be sure to hear from me. :)"

"I was a quasi leader (more like assistant because of lingual and cultural limitations) for one of the three kids groups for the summer camp. M-F, 10:00am-5:30pm, entailed supervising the kids and participating in their various activities. I also took a different group of kids two consecutive weekends on excursions to different sights in the city...
I was able to work with some amazing kids and some amazing coworkers...
I plan on continuing to assist the organization and kids in similarly tough circumstances any way possible."

"Things have been going well here and my Ukrainian is much improved. The homestay is great. I agreed on paying them $200 a month since the family is really nice and Natalya feeds me a ton even when I don't want it and I spend almost no money at all on other things in Lviv besides bars. This weekend a couple of us are going to the Crimea for a couple days in Yalta. Classes end on the 3rd of August so I will probably spend the last month just playing rugby and maybe travelling."
