Pictures of Tyachiv and Surroundings

Tyachiv and the small towns around it in the Tisa River valley are quite poor, but they have an interesting mix of different cultures (Ukrainian, Rusyn, Romanian, and Hungarian). This area is not easily accessible from Kiev, but it is very easy to drive in from Hungary or Slovakia.

I like this photo a lot = the best and highest quality photos (in our opinion).

Tyachiv

Church and central square

Old buildings along main street

Private hotel

Tyachiv city park, with a monument to WWII soldiers

Instruction at this gymnasium (high school) is in Hungarian.

State hotel

Vyshkove

Vyshkove is a historically Hungarian town by the Romanian border. Most residents speak Ukrainian, but many signs are in Hungarian as well.

The market looks like any small-town Ukrainian market.

House designs are very similar to homes in Hungary.

Other locations

Hotel at the beginning of the road to Shayan, a well-known mineral water resort next to the Romanian and Hungarian border.

Nature

Tyachiv and the towns around it are located in the broad valley of the river Tisa, with mountains on both sides rising as high as 1000 m above sea level.
