Chornobyl and Pripyat created: May 5, 2014 Late at night on April 26, 1986 the fourth block of the Chornobyl nuclear reactor blew up, a fire ensued, and a huge amount of radiation was released into the atmosphere just 80 km north of Kiev. Roughly 100 personnel and firefighters died in the coming months and years due to radiation exposure, over 115,000 people were evacuated from the vicinity, and 600,000 people participated in the clean-up activities within a 30-kilometer radius of the reactor.....

Pictures of Chernihiv: Ukraine's Most Ancient Churches Chernihiv (Chernigov) is one of the oldest towns in Ukraine and is home to some of Ukraine's most ancient churches (tied with Kiev's Sofia cathedral). Chernihiv is a pleasant small town with stately buildings from the Russian Imperial period and, of course, the much more ancient Orthodox churches. Chernihiv is only a two-hour drive north from Kiev, and minibuses leave a few times each hour from outside Lisova metro station. There's plenty to do and see for an entire day.
