Lutsk is the capital of Lutsk Oblast, a region often called "Volyn." Volyn is in the extreme northwest corner of Ukraine and is covered with mixed forests, lakes, and plains with occasional small towns.

Skyline of old town. Lutsk is a very old town — at least 920 years old. Now Lutsk is an oblast center with over 200,000 residents.
