Pictures of Alupka, Crimea

Including Simeiz and Vorontsov Palace

Alupka is a small resort town about 15 km southwest of Yalta in the warmest zone of Crimea's South Shore. There are a number of Soviet-era sanatoriums here, as well as numerous private homes that accept vacationers. The town center has some cafes, discotheques, and even an old movie theater.

The section of coastline within Alupka is mostly wild and accessible to anyone via Alupka Park, one of several major landscape parks along the Crimean Black Sea coast. Within the park is Vorontsov Palace, a must-see for anyone visiting the Alupka area.

Further west is the quiet resort of Simeiz, with a number of sanatoriums similar to Alupka. Above these towns rise the Ay-Petri mountain ridge, accessible by cable car from Miskhor a few miles to the east of Alupka or by minibus or taxi from the Yalta bus station.

I like this photo a lot = the best and highest quality photos (in our opinion).

Alupka's beautiful landscape park has hundreds of exotic plants, including giant sequoias.

Southwest Crimea's shore is dotted with pines.

Much of Crimea's coast is rocky and wild. Some folks camp out here all summer long.

Simeiz beaches
There are plenty of places to rough it along Crimea's wild shores, like this now decorated cave near Simeiz. The hippy spirit lives on here and elsewhere along Crimea's coastline.

Crimea is home to 240 indigenous plant, such as this red-bark broadleaf evergreen "Zemlyanichnik." Much of southern Crimea is protected in nature reserves.
